Each year, the Master Electricians Australia (MEA) Awards recognise the nation’s best electrical businesses, projects, and professionals. These awards celebrate innovation, technical expertise, leadership and outstanding service in the electrical industry.
At O'Brien Electrical & Plumbing Rowville, we are proud to have built a strong reputation in the industry and have enjoyed success at the MEA Awards for many years running. This continued recognition reflects the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our entire team, as well as our commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients.
This year was no exception. In 2025, we were honoured to be named State Finalists in seven categories at the Victorian MEA Awards:
- Master Electrician of the Year
- Electrician of the Year (Tradie)
- Apprentice of the Year
- Women in Contracting Award
- Commercial Project of the Year (less than $1M)
- Clean Energy Project of the Year
- Bill Bartley Service Excellence Award
On the night of the Victorian State Awards, we were thrilled to take home the Women in Contracting Award, thanks to the incredible achievements of our Foreman, Riannah Virgin.
Spotlight on Riannah Virgin – Women in Contracting Award Winner
Riannah’s journey in the electrical industry is one of passion, leadership and perseverance. Beginning her career as an apprentice through NECA Education & Careers, Riannah quickly stood out for her initiative and drive. By her third year, she was already managing parts of major projects and leading small teams.
After qualifying as an A-Grade electrician four years ago, Riannah stepped confidently into leadership roles, becoming a foreman within three years. She has since successfully delivered complex commercial projects, earning the respect of clients, builders, and her peers.
Her dedication to delivering safe, high-quality results is matched by her willingness to learn and her ability to cultivate a positive, collaborative team culture.
Advocating for Women in the Electrical Industry
As a female leader in a traditionally male-dominated field, Riannah is passionate about supporting and mentoring other women entering the trade. She actively engages with industry organisations, speaks with young women about apprenticeship pathways, and ensures female apprentices within our business feel supported and valued.
Her work is helping to shape a more inclusive and diverse electrical industry – something we are incredibly proud to celebrate.
