The 2025 Gala Awards marked a highlight of The Advantage Conference, which was held on the Sunshine Coast this year. The Conference brought together Members, Suppliers, and colleagues from across the O’Brien and Laser Electrical and Plumbing Network to recognise outstanding achievement and dedication.

Beyond the awards themselves, the evening reflected the unique spirit of the O’Brien and Laser Network. Each time a winner was announced, the collective pride in the room was unmistakable — a testament to the camaraderie and support that underpin our success.

This shared celebration reinforced that our greatest strength lies not only in individual achievement, but in the way we come together as a community.

While not every nominee took home a trophy, each has achieved remarkable success in their own right and set an inspiring example for others. The Gala Awards provided an opportunity to acknowledge these efforts and to shine a spotlight on the exceptional talent, commitment, and collaboration that define our Members and Suppliers.

Founded in 1983 as a small electrical contracting business in Auckland, New Zealand, the O’Brien and Laser Network has since evolved into the largest national network in the electrical and plumbing industries across New Zealand and Australia.

What began as a local venture by two electricians, Peter Bassett and David Clemmett, has grown into a trans-Tasman Network.

Humble Beginnings in New Zealand

The Laser journey began with two business owners who, after successfully building their standalone electrical business known as Laser Electrical in West Auckland, attended a business breakfast that would change the course of their company’s future.

It was here they learned about franchising and encouraged by this idea, they saw an opportunity to expand their business model beyond Auckland into other towns and cities in New Zealand.

In 1999, they established the Laser Franchise Group. From its inception, Laser was focused on building relationships with like-minded business owners, a hallmark that remains central to its success today. Ashley Clemmett, Head of Commercial & Systems for O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing, said:

“In those early days, Pete and Dave literally went around the country, door-knocking the best electrical business they could find in every major town and inviting them to join their fledgling network.”

This commitment to forging strong, value-driven partnerships helped them grow quickly. Within just a few years, Laser had 20 Members across New Zealand, with many of those original Members still part of the Network today.

Expansion into Australia

By 2004, Laser was ready to take on a new challenge: expanding into Australia. Despite having a strong presence in New Zealand, the team knew they needed local expertise to replicate their success across the Tasman.

Enter Steve Keil, who had previously run his own electrical contracting business and was at that time a senior manager for a major electrical wholesaler in Australia. Steve was approached to help spearhead the Australian expansion, and like many of the early Laser Members, he took a leap of faith. Ashley said:

“Steve basically did what Pete and Dave had done — he started with an innovative business, launched the franchise operations in Australia, and began building relationships with potential Members.”

It didn’t take long before electrician and businessman Paul Harty in Greensborough, Victoria became their first Australian Member, famously stating:

“Sounds dangerous. Count me in!”

From that point, the Laser Network expanded rapidly in Australia, driven by strong partnerships with key suppliers like Lawrence & Hanson, who could see the success the group had achieved in NZ and believed in the potential of the Laser Network in Australia.

While Laser originally focused on electrical services, the demand for a similar model in plumbing soon became clear. Recognising the similarity in operations between the two trades, Laser launched their plumbing Network in 2006.

A Legacy of Innovation

Throughout its history, Laser has been committed to providing its Members with many of the tools they need to succeed. For example, in the late 90s and into the early 2000’s, Laser Electrical had been developing some of the industry’s earliest quoting software, building its own systems when none were suitable for the Laser Network on the market.

By 2012, Laser had transitioned to more advanced software solutions, partnering with companies like Simpro Software, Xero, and Google Workspace to provide Members with top-tier cloud-based tools and systems for managing their businesses.

This focus on innovation has helped Laser maintain its position as one of the leaders in the electrical and plumbing industries, providing Members with resources while staying true to its core values of partnership and support.

Acquisition by O'Brien and Continued Success

In 2018, after years of steady growth, Laser was acquired in Australia by O'Brien, a well-established vehicle glass and glazing company.

The acquisition was a natural progression for both companies. Laser’s co-founder, David, had retired, and Peter’s passing had left the business looking for new ownership. O'Brien was looking for a reputable, established company to expand into new services, and Laser fit the bill perfectly.

The acquisition provided Laser with the resources to continue its strong presence while ensuring the company remained in capable hands. The Member businesses within the Network have continued to thrive.

Today, the Network continues to operate across both Australia and New Zealand under both the O’Brien and Laser brands,  as local experts making it easy in both the electrical and plumbing sectors.

Join a Network of Excellence

For business owners considering joining the O’Brien Network, the company’s long-standing presence and trusted reputation make it an attractive proposition. Ashley said:

“For prospective Members, the value lies in the size of the network and increased opportunities for collaboration and support. The more people involved, the greater the collective intelligence within the group. Think of it as 100 people being collectively smarter than just one. This means that within the Network, someone likely has the answer to any question you might have. By joining, you can learn from others’ experiences, avoid pitfalls, and receive valuable support and guidance.”

As O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing continues to broaden their Network, the focus remains on providing Members with the support, tools, and opportunities to grow. If you are looking for a Network that values quality, innovation, and lasting relationships, O’Brien is the perfect fit.

Benefits for Businesses Joining the O’Brien and Laser Network

For independent electrical and plumbing businesses, joining the O’Brien Network offers numerous benefits. From leveraging a nationally recognised brand to accessing cutting-edge technology and benefiting from the collective experience of the Network, the opportunities are significant.

The combination of Laser’s long-standing reputation and O’Brien’s resources has created a platform for growth and innovation, making it an attractive proposition for prospective Members looking to take their businesses to the next level. Ashley said:

“One of the most rewarding aspects of this business is witnessing the growth and success of our Members. We’ve seen many businesses transition to second-generation family members or even employee-owned companies. It’s incredibly satisfying to know that we’ve played a role in helping these business owners improve their lives and achieve their goals. Seeing them succeed, provide for their families, and enjoy a better quality of life is truly fulfilling.”

As O’Brien continues to welcome new Members, the Network’s potential for collaboration, support, and success only grows stronger. Ashley said:

“We’ve gone from strength to strength, and I believe our future is incredibly bright. Despite the Network having now been around for 20 years in Australia, it feels like we’re just getting started. We have numerous opportunities ahead, including exciting projects we announced at the recent annual Member Conference event.

Additionally, we’re welcoming new team members and introducing innovative services that will enhance our Members’ business offerings. This is what truly excites me about our future. My experience with the transition from Laser to O’Brien’s ownership highlights the value of additional support, which we’ve been able to provide through our integration with O'Brien.”

For businesses ready to grow, the future with O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing looks brighter than ever.

O'Brien Electrical Campbellfield in Victoria is proudly celebrating their 20th year as a Member of the O'Brien and Laser Group Network. Over the past two decades, the business has thrived, benefiting from the support and collaboration that comes with being part of the Network.

Owned by spouses Andrew and Shelley, this dynamic company has evolved significantly since 1996, when Andrew bought the existing business where he completed his apprenticeship. They joined the Network in 2004 as Laser Electrical Campbellfield, with a later transition to O’Brien Electrical Campbellfield.

Specialising in electrical services that range from domestic to industrial work and even solar installations, the company has consistently sought to expand its horizons.

Their can-do attitude is evident in their approach to challenges, such as when they took on the unique task of wiring lift panels during the COVID-19 pandemic. This project not only showcased their versatility but also became a crucial source of revenue during a challenging time.

How Did O’Brien Electrical Campbellfield Benefit from Becoming a Member?

In August 2004, the business joined the O’Brien and Laser Network, a decision driven by the desire for better networking opportunities. Andrew and Shelley recognised that being part of a larger franchise would allow them to share knowledge and resources with like-minded operators. Shelley said:

Whenever I need something, it’s just a phone call away — whether that’s reaching out to another Member, the support office, or even O’Brien staff members, who’ve become like good friends over the years.

We’ve been part of the Network since the very beginning, so I feel comfortable reaching out whenever I need help. I never hesitate to pick up the phone and ask, “How do I do this?”.

We’re not the best at marketing and other things like that, but the Network has always been there to help us along the way. If something isn’t working, it’s usually on us for not following through.

When you’re a small business owner, you’re a jack of all trades, and there are so many things you need to know — but also a lot you don’t. You often learn by trial and error, but having the support of the O'Brien and Laser Network has been like a security blanket. It’s reassuring to know that someone is always there to help when you need it.”

Another benefit was access to software, which meant a better way of working. The business moved from an informal, mental calculation of billing to a more systematic approach. Thanks to the support of the O’Brien and Laser Network, they implemented accounting systems that streamlined their operations and enhanced their overall efficiency.

How Networking Became Key to Success

Throughout their journey, the company has built a strong network with fellow O’Brien and Laser Members. This camaraderie has been instrumental in their growth, enabling them to share insights, solve problems, and collaborate on projects across Australia. Shelley said:

That’s what the Network is for — you don’t have to sit there struggling when someone else has already been through it. The beauty of the Network is that, whether it’s HR issues, forms, or any other aspect of running a business, there’s usually someone who’s done it before. And when we collaborate, we come up with some brilliant solutions. It’s that old saying — many hands make light work.”

The partnership with O’Brien has also instilled a sense of community among Members. The willingness of Members to share resources, answers to common problems, and even lend a helping hand exemplifies the supportive culture that O’Brien fosters.

Andrew reflects on how the Network contrasts sharply with the traditional electrical business landscape, where sometimes businesses do not support each other. The mutual support within the O’Brien and Laser community has been a game-changer, allowing them to navigate challenges together and celebrate successes collectively. Andrew said:

“When you’ve got a problem on a job and you’re unsure about something, it’s great to have the Network to lean on. I can ring up another Member and ask, “How would you handle this?”. Instead of going in blind, I can just call and get an honest answer from someone who’s been through it.”

As we celebrate 20 years of O’Brien Electrical Campbellfield as a valued Member of the O’Brien and Laser Network, it is clear that their journey is not just about business growth; it is about building relationships, fostering a culture of learning, and contributing to the broader community.

The story of this family-owned business serves as an inspiring testament to the power of resilience and adaptability in an ever-changing industry.

Collaboration in Action — The Fire Signs Project

Notable achievements include the refurbishment of electronic fire signs across Victoria and participation in national contracts for major brands. Such projects have not only contributed to their bottom line but have also reinforced their reputation for quality and their connections within the Network. Shelley said:

A great example of the support we’ve received is when we worked on refurbishing fire signs. We had a lot of discussions with another Member, Paul from O’Brien Electrical Greensborough. He shared how he handles similar jobs, like the 7-Eleven projects he works on. He’s been instrumental in everything we’ve done, and whenever we hit a roadblock, whether it’s work-related or something else, he’s been there. We’ve become such good friends because of it.”

Members also come together to raise money for charities.

Cheers to Our 20th Anniversary

Looking ahead, O’Brien Electrical Campbellfield remains poised for longevity. Their commitment to embracing new challenges and opportunities will undoubtedly lead to continued success in the years to come.

Together with the O’Brien and Laser Network, they will continue to light the way for others in the industry, proving that with the right partnerships and a shared vision, the possibilities are endless. Here’s to many more years of shared success.

In 2024, Paul Harty and his team at O'Brien Electrical Greensborough marked a significant milestone — two decades of partnership with the O’Brien and Laser Group, an achievement underscored by business growth, innovation, and strong community ties.

Paul is a trailblazer in the Network and has been a key player in the numerous charity fundraising and Taskforce giving-back initiatives over the years.

As we celebrate Paul’s 20-year journey with us, we look back on how his commitment to excellence and the support system of the O’Brien and Laser Group contributed to the longevity of his business in Victoria.

Joining the O'Brien Network: A Transformational Step

Paul’s relationship with O’Brien began in 2004, when his Greensborough electrical business joined the O'Brien Network, which was then known as Laser Electrical and Plumbing. Paul’s business was the first to join when the Network launched in Australia.

Paul established his business in 1987 and had grown a successful operation. However, it was the decision to join O’Brien that marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with even greater possibilities. He quickly recognised that O’Brien was not just a network but a family of businesses committed to helping each other thrive. Paul said:

“It gives you someone to lean on, especially in the early days,”

Joining the Network brought advantages with it, like a bigger brand name. Paul said:

“My wife, Jenni, and I started the business together, and she handled the bookkeeping and invoicing. In 2004, I decided to change the name on the front door because I felt we needed a recognised brand, not just a personal name. That’s why we joined Laser — because it offered that reliable branding.”

Technological Improvements and Staying Ahead

One of the significant advantages of being part of the O’Brien Network has been access to cutting-edge technology.

Before joining the franchise, Paul’s business relied on manual processes for job tracking and invoicing. O’Brien helped Paul streamline these processes. The introduction of software like LaserPrO’ was a game-changer for the business, enabling Paul to scale up while maintaining efficiency. Paul said:

“There were big leaps in professionalism and software. In the early days, cash flow was a constant challenge, and I was always chasing payments. Back then, I used to carry a book listing all the jobs, trying to track everything manually. But with Laser and O’Brien, things have changed significantly. The right software made a huge difference — helping us track jobs, invoice faster, and manage everything more efficiently.

Today, the software allows us to easily expand as needed, whether it’s adding more mobile apps or email addresses. It’s seamless support that has helped our business grow.”

This focus on innovation has kept Paul’s business competitive in a fast-evolving industry. Being part of the O’Brien Network provided resources and tools that would have been difficult for a small, independent business to implement on its own.

Expansion and Embracing Change

From an already strong electrical division, Paul expanded into the plumbing market, an area led by his nephew. Today, Paul’s business operates with a team of around 30 employees across both divisions, allowing them to maintain a strong presence in the electrical and plumbing sectors.

The expansion into the Melbourne CBD market has not been without its challenges. Paul acknowledges that it is a competitive space with many players. However, with the opening of a new office in Collingwood, his business is well-positioned to tap into the potential of the vibrant Melbourne CBD.

The diverse service offering, along with a strong team, has enabled Paul’s company to take on larger projects and cater to a wider customer base.

Networking and Community: The O'Brien Advantage

One of the most rewarding aspects of Paul’s journey with O’Brien has been the power of its community. Being part of the O'Brien family has enabled Paul to leverage the strength of the network, allowing his business to expand its reach and tackle large-scale projects.

A key example of this is the company’s ability to service national clients like 7-Eleven and Starbucks, providing solutions across hundreds of stores in Australia. The trust and connection within the network make these large-scale projects possible. Paul said:

“We’ve been providing service to 7-Eleven and petrol stations for over 20 years, solving problems nationally thanks to the support of the O'Brien Group. They could give us a single issue, and we’d be able to fix it across 700 stores in Australia.

Our strength lies in reliability, prompt service, and effectively solving customer problems.”

The annual O’Brien conferences have also played a crucial role in Paul’s journey. Having attended more than 20 conferences, Paul views these events as an essential part of his professional development.

The blend of learning from industry experts and connecting with other Members creates an environment where both personal and business growth flourish. Paul said:

“The networking and friendships from the conferences are the most important part of the O'Brien Network. It gives you people you can talk to, learn from, and share experiences with. Everyone is like-minded and in a similar position, which makes those connections the best part of being in the Network.”

Paul also values the opportunity to bring his staff to these conferences, giving them a break from the usual work environment while investing in their professional growth.

A Story of Success in the Network

Paul Harty’s 20-year journey with O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing showcases the power of connection, community, and adaptability.

His business’s growth from a small family operation into a national provider of electrical and plumbing services is a testament to the value of partnership within the O’Brien Network. Paul said:

“To those looking for support in growing their business and managing the day-to-day, it’s a great group to be part of. The Network helps you step forward in your business much faster than you would on your own.

It offers honest support, from providing the right tools and resources to fixing issues quickly. It’s like having a professional team backing you, so you can stay ahead of the competition.”

Supported by a strong team and a commitment to innovation, Paul’s business continues to thrive, and his future remains bright as he looks ahead to new challenges and opportunities.

Over 440 delegates across O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing and the Laser Network came together for The Advantage Conference 2024. This spectacular 4-day event marked the first trans-Tasman conference since 2019. It provided an opportunity for the Network to come together as a family and celebrate their outstanding achievements. The Conference program, including interactive workshops offering opportunities for business learning and inspiration. The trans-Tasman spirit was in full flight as the Network reconnected with old mates and forged new partnerships.

Taskforce

Touch down in Wellington New Zealand, and the Network hit the ground running with an incredible Taskforce Project. Taskforce is the Network’s annual Giving Back Project and it is in its 17th year running! This year’s Taskforce was held at Wellington’s Life Flight Westpac Helicopter Base. Over 100 suppliers, Members and friendly Volunteers put in some hard yakka to support this very worthy non-for profit organisation. Life Flight provides crucial emergency aeromedical services.

Head of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications at Life Flight Trust, Sebastian Grodd said “Our Air rescue base is the hub, where our urgent missions start and end. To get this help and expertise, to make it the best that it can be, means so much to our team. Thank you so much for taking the opportunity to make a difference!”

An incredibly important part of what makes this Network so successful are our valued suppliers. The trade expo was a standout feature, showcasing 45 Australian and New Zealand Suppliers. The suppliers demonstrated new products, held interactive presentations, and showed how they could support business needs, discover and learn how they can support their business needs.

Keynote Speakers

The Advantage Conference program this year featured three incredible keynote speakers who delivered insights that will resonate long after the conference. Inspirational keynote speakers such as former professional boxer, Dave Letele (AKA Brown Buttabean) and Gilbert Enoka renowned for his work as a mental skills coach with New Zealand’s corporate and sporting elite. On day two of the conference we heard from Dr Michelle Dickonson – nanotechnologist and science educator. Michelle also appeared on stage at the Women’s event, presenting on her experiences in her career.

We also took time to celebrate significant milestones, honouring our trans-Tasman Members with 25, 20, 15 and 10 year anniversaries.

Networking was at its peak with amazing offsite evening functions, where attendees enjoyed opportunities to connect and collaborate. The Network wound back the clock at the renaissance and medieval themed night! Members and Suppliers also made some wonderful memories at the offsite networking event held at the entertainment complex – Brewtown. Brewtown provided loads of fun activities with go-kart racing, putt putt golf and more. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a resounding success!

Did you know that in 2022 32% of Australia’s total electricity generation came from renewable energy sources?. Let’s take a look at some of the ways O’Brien electricians and plumbers are using eco-friendly solar technology.

Solar Power

Electricians commonly promote sustainability through solar power, offering customers the chance to enhance their energy savings with solar storage systems.

When utilising solar panels, surplus solar power typically goes back to the grid when the sun sets. Utilising solar batteries or self-consumption is a clever method to make the most of the power generated during the day. Solar batteries enable you to store unused power for use at night or during adverse weather conditions. Many O’Brien Electrical businesses specialise in solar installations and can help you from the initial design to the completion of solar projects.

Solar Powered EV Chargers

Now, more than ever we are opting for eco-friendly solutions to help reduce our carbon footprint. An example of this is sustainable EV Charging stations that are solar powered. You may be able to power your EV Charging stations using your home solar panels. Using self generated solar electricity can save you on energy costs. If you’re interested in learning more contact your local O’Brien Electrician today.

Solar thermal heaters

How are you heating your household water? Not only can you use solar power to heat your home, you can also use it to heat your water. If you are using gas or electric heating sources for this, you may want to consider solar. Using solar to heat your water uses less natural resources.

Solar thermal heaters heat water using the sun’s thermal energy, conducted through solar thermal panels. The panel consists of tubes filled with a liquid, often glycol with antifreeze. The Sun heats the liquid, which then warms your hot water tank.

O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing experts are here to help guide customers in sustainable technology as we become more aware of the impacts of climate change. We also recognise the effects of sustainable technology on energy costs, including types of products you’re currently using, fuel costs and variations in electricity supply and demand

O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing is committed to providing customers with eco-friendly technology options so that together we can help reduce our impact on the environment. Find your local expert by going to obrien.com.au.

5 Essential Electrical and Plumbing Tips for Homeowners this Easter long weekend https://www.obrien.com.au/articles/5-essential-electrical-and-plumbing-tips-for-homeowners-this-easter-long-weekend/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 00:00:36 +0000 https://www.obrien.com.au/?p=20463 Happy Easter! Happy Easter! Don’t let plumbing or electrical problems get in the way of you having an egg-cellent Easter with your friends and family. With all the activity Easter brings to the home, it’s important to ensure your electrical and plumbing systems are running smoothly. Read on to follow our expert’s advice on how to help avoid 5 common electrical and plumbing household problems.

1. Prevent Kitchen Clogs

A common problem not just at Easter but anytime during the year, is kitchen sink clogging. It’s easy when hosting, to forget to protect your kitchen plumbing system. By correctly disposing of grease, coffee grounds or eggshells you can help prevent the pipes clogging up. To run preventative maintenance, run cold water for a few seconds to help flush any clogging down the drains.

If you do come across a blocked drain in your home, call your local O’Brien Plumber and the team will work efficiently to solve the problem. Our plumbers are equipped with all the equipment needed to solve the problem, so you can rest assured O’Brien Plumbers will find a solution for your home.

  1. Avoid Electrical Overloads

The first electrical hazard our experts want to warn you about is heavy appliance use. Easter gatherings often involve multiple appliances running at once. Avoid overloading circuits by using one high-wattage appliance at the same time. Plug in appliances such as microwaves, toasters, dishwashers and kettles, each draw around 5-10 amps each and are generally on the same kitchen circuit protected by a 16 amp or 20 amp circuit breaker, so if all these are going at once, it’s likely you will overload the circuit.

Secondly, extension cords require inspection for damage before use. We recommend avoiding overloading the powerboards and examining your extension cords. Regularly visually inspect your extension leads and if the plugs are damaged or insulation is exposed, throw it out and replace. When shopping, shop for powerboards with the appropriate amp rating for the appliance and ensure they have an overload switch.

  1. Tackle Minor Leaks

Leaking can take place in a variety of places around the home. Keep an eye out for drips under sinks and around toilets. If you fix a small leak, it can prevent it from becoming a larger problem in the future. These can usually be repaired using DIY leak fixing kits from your local hardware store. For larger leaks and for secure solutions that last, we recommend calling your local O’Brien Plumbing expert.

  1. Test Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Easter is a time for cooking, so ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in working order. Some alarms have an expiry date of 10 years, so it’s important to make sure they are running efficiently. For smoke alarm installation, testing and maintenance book an inspection time with your local O’Brien Electrician. We recommend replacing batteries at daylight savings time so it’s done annually.

  1. Know When to Call a Professional

If you experience any of the following problems e.g. slow draining water, low water pressure and any strange noises or smells coming from your plumbing this may indicate complex issues. Electrical watch-outs include short circuits, loose connections or flickering lights.

If you’re facing a larger electrical or plumbing issue like sparks or a major plumbing leak, don’t hesitate to call a qualified O’Brien electrician or plumber.

O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing has a long history of giving back. The O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Group strives to display the O’Brien DNA – to be caring, collaborative, driven and genuine. Employees of O’Brien regularly jump on the opportunity to make a positive community impact. The O’Brien Giving Back Calendar this year had many activities where staff had the chance to take part in creating positive change in society.

We kicked off this year with a Push Up Challenge, as part of the Giving Back Calendar. The O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Team as part of the overall O'Brien Team raised $911 for the Push Up Challenge, raising awareness of mental health and funds for suicide prevention. Last year, O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing division collectively raised $100,000 through the efforts of the Network their Turn the Tide on Suicide fundraiser for Beyond Blue that started October 2021 and wrapped up in June 2022. Many O'Brien electricians and plumbers held fundraising events, took part in auctions and spread awareness for Turn the Tide on Suicide.

This year our O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Members were encouraged to put forward a charity for The Belron Ronnie Lubner Charitable Foundation’s ‘You can make a difference’ campaign. 6 charities, including Tradies in Sight, Daniel Morcombe Foundation and Very Special Kids received a 500 Euro (approx $800) donation to assist in the charity’s amazing work as part of this campaign.

This month, a group of enthusiastic volunteers from the O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Support Office took part in volunteering for Foodbank. Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, providing over 70% of the total food relief to people in need. The team first found out about Foodbank when they hosted a food drive in their North Sydney office and invited Janyne Hogan, Foodbank’s Head of Partnerships & Philanthropy, to present on Foodbank’s programs, partnerships and impact. Collectively the O’Brien team raised 254kg of donations equating to 457 meals. This will go toward the over 763,000 households in the past 12 months in NSW & ACT going hungry due to rising cost of living.

The team wanted to do more to help Foodbank’s amazing work, so we organised a Team Volunteer day, volunteering at the Foodbank warehouse. Together we made a real difference by filling 665 bags of potatoes (2,660kg) as well as 18 ‘pick & pack’ orders (11,784kg), all equating to just under 26,000 meals for Australian families in need of support.

Head of Commercial & Systems for O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing, Ashley Clemmett, says “Giving back to the communities that we live and work in is an important part of our DNA. Our team did a really good job on our O'Brien volunteering day at Foodbank in western Sydney recently, making a difference with real care. It is really pleasing to see that over 100 O’Brien employees have participated in a volunteering day so far in 2023”.

These are just some of the ways we stay committed to making a real difference with real care, and continue to make a positive community impact.
