Here at O’Brien®, our Mobile automotive technicians make repairing and replacing your vehicle glass easy – and in most cases, we can even come to you.

With 64 O’Brien® AutoGlass locations across Australia, there could be an expert technician nearby, ready to assist you with your vehicle glass needs.
Today, we wanted to shed some light on what the O’Brien® AutoGlass mobile service covers, so decided to have a chat with one of our most experienced mobile technicians, Mike Kelly from the Smeaton Grange Service Centre in Sydney.

We asked Mike a few questions about the work he does each day at O’Brien® to help keep his customers on the road. We hope you learn about the ins and outs of the O’Brien® Mobile Service and a few handy tips as well.

Q: Tell us about what services you provide as part of the O'Brien® AutoGlass Mobile Service.

Mike: Every service centre has at least one qualified Mobile Service Technician who specialises in providing convenient windscreen replacements and repairs. As a Level 5 technician with 19 years of experience, I primarily work on the road, replacing windscreens at customers’ homes, businesses, or even at the beach– essentially wherever our customers need us, provided it’s a safe location.

We can help with chip repairs, windscreen replacements (for non-ADAS vehicles), door and rear glass replacements and we can even offer additional services like windscreen wiper and cabin filter replacements as well.

When you make a booking, our call centre team can confirm if there is a mobile service option available at your service centre for the time you’d prefer.

Q: Is it safe for someone to drive with a chip or crack in their windscreen?

Mike: A chipped windscreen may seem like a small problem in the short term, but there’s a chance that that chip may spread and eventually turn into a large crack. There’s no issue driving with a chip, however, there’s no knowing when a chip could turn into a crack. In fact, it will often when you least expect it, so it’s wise to get a chip repaired as soon as it happens.

In the event of a crack appearing, if the crack doesn’t impede the driver’s vision, it’s usually ok to drive your vehicle to a safe location, but you should seek our assistance immediately afterwards. That’s what’s good about our Mobile Service, so you can avoid the need to drive with reduced visibility and unsafely.

Q: What tips do you have for customers that they can follow right away in the event of getting a chip in their windscreen?

Mike: A chip in your windscreen means that your windscreen is weak where this damage is, which means your windscreen could crack at any time. So, the best approach is to get it fixed as soon as you can.

A handy tool to keep in your glovebox is an O'Brien® Saver Patch Kit. These are free, and available at your local O’Brien service centre. This clear sticky patch can cover your chip and prevent moisture or dirt from being embedded in the cracks of the chip. While this patch won’t prevent the chip from turning into a crack, it could help improve the cosmetic appearance of your repaired chip. If the chip is kept clean, there’s a better chance of the repair being less visible. But the best thing is to act quickly to repair your chip, which can save you from having to replace your entire windscreen. Like we say in our ads, repairing a chip is definitely FASTER, CHEAPER and GREENER.

I repair lots of chips every day, as it’s very convenient for customers to have us come to them (instead of bringing their car into our service centre). And I always leave behind a few Saver Patch Kits (because you never know when you will get a chip).

Q: How long does a typical windscreen replacement take, and what is the process like?

Mike: At the start of my day, I’ll have already loaded up the new windscreen for your vehicle (which our branch team arranged to have ready at our centre when you first booked with us). This means I’ll have not only your new windscreen but all the tools I need to complete the installation when I arrive and once I’m there, at the customer’s location, I get straight to work.

On average, a windscreen replacement takes around 90 minutes to complete.

Once the replacement is done, we recommend you let the car sit for approximately half an hour to ensure everything sets properly which means you’ll usually be back on the road and safe, within about an hour and a half.

Note that if you go to a service centre for a windscreen replacement, you will need to allow an extra 30 minutes (depending on how busy they are), and if your car has ADAS features, it will require additional time for a recalibration to be performed.

Q: How do you ensure you have the right glass for each job?

Mike: At O’Brien®, we have a vast inventory of prefabricated glass covering a wide range of vehicle makes and models at our National Warehouse, something in the range of 150,000 different shapes and sizes.

When a job request comes in, we verify the vehicle’s specifications and promptly order the necessary glass from our national warehouse. Technicians like me are trained to identify the correct glass type, and our advanced inventory management systems ensure we make the accurate choice. Plus, with the extensive delivery network, the right glass is delivered to our service centres quickly as well.

Q: Can you provide the Mobile Service anywhere to customers?

Mike: We can provide our services at customers’ homes, businesses, or even at convenient public locations like shopping centre car parks.

However, for safety reasons, we typically require off-road parking to carry out the work efficiently. If a vehicle is stuck on the road due to damage, we’ll assess the area for safety and proceed accordingly. If possible, it’s also great if the vehicle can be kept under cover as working with glass in the direct sun can be blisteringly hot – that’s a great help to us. For example, if the glass is too hot, we have to wait until it cools down to perform a chip repair (which adds extra time to the job and can delay you getting back on the road).

As Mike, our mobile tech expert said: if you’ve got a chip in your windscreen, don’t wait.

Remember, it doesn’t take much for a windscreen chip to turn into a crack, plus, chip repair is faster, cheaper, and greener than windscreen replacement.

So, don’t wait for the chip to turn into further damage.

Have your windscreen chip repaired by a friendly expert technician like Mike who can come to you and help get you back out on the road fast.
Call 1800 059 829 or visit our website to book your repair or replacement today.

Every day at O'Brien® is a unique experience. Not only do we try to delight our customers every day, but we try to do the same for our staff.

You’ll usually find Alexis, from our Glazing Solutions Team, behind the scenes talking to customers over the phone and helping to solve their glass needs. But this day, she was lucky enough to join one of our Glaziers in our Sydney team, Martin, out on the road. And it proved to be a very different job experience for the day.

So join us for an action-packed day with Martin and Alexis as they embark on a journey full of appointments and helping customers.

Starting the day right

No day starts without the 8 A.M. meeting with fellow glaziers for a team debrief and run down of the day. It’s a great chance to connect with others in the team, share the adventures ahead, and keep updated with branch news. Martin then loaded the O'Brien® truck with the tools and glass needed for the next two days ahead of appointments. Once Alexis arrived, she put on the required safety kit, and they set off.

Full Steam Ahead

Not every day starts smooth and easy in Glazing! With the first customer no longer available for the day, Martin quickly notified the office planning team leader, who helped move things around. He explained, “You’ ‘ve got to be flexible as your day won’t always go to plan.”

But the day was soon back on track, with the next customer greeting them with an offer of a coffee, which Martin politely declined, and they talked through the broken glass situation in her home. A low-lying panel of grey glass had shattered into sharp shards.

After assessing the situation, Martin quickly determined that ‘safety glass’ was the best solution for this job, which was different to what was initially quoted. However, the customer agreed after Martin explained the relevance of having the correct type of glass in high-risk areas like a bedroom. So, geared up with gloves, gauntlets and glasses, Martin got to work removing the broken shards and installing the new safety glass.

From Alexis’ call centre experience, she shares, “We have to ask lots of questions from our customers to obtain accurate information to determine the correct glass type for the window. However, our experienced glaziers always confirm details once they arrive to ensure that the most suitable glass type is used for reglazing.”

Martin adds, “People trust you when you take time to explain what we are doing and why, especially for their safety and peace of mind. I always want to do what is right for my customers, as they rely on us.”

After Martin cleaned up the area and provided the happy customer with clear instructions for not touching the glass for 24 hours (until the silicone had set), Alexis and Martin were soon on their way again.

Onto the next job

After a scheduled break to rest and recharge, Martin and Alexis were back on the road to another reglazing job for a real estate agent at a tenanted property on the other side of town.

After balancing a tricky access situation and the smell of a nearby compost bin, Martin completed the reglaze of the tenant’s window. Then, a broken glass door panel was the next task.

After assessing the situation, Martin felt a more seamless door repair solution with different glass was needed, so he contacted the real estate agent. Instead of using laminated glass, which would have made the door look a little clunky and not as aesthetically pleasing, he recommended using a thinner, toughened glass for the reglaze (which the agent agreed to proceed with). As toughened glass is made-to-measure (and would need to be ordered and another site visit booked), Martin confirmed the dimensions and then applied sticky plastic film as an interim make-safe solution for the tenant.

“At O'Brien®, we pride ourselves on being glass experts. So, if I’m at a job and can see a better way to do things, I suggest it to the customer. That way, they can decide what is best for their needs,” Martin explained. “People rely on our expertise and appreciate that we are there to help – and that’s exactly what we do.”

Reflection

As the day drew to a close, Alexis shared, “Martin was extremely professional and knowledgeable about the glazing process. It was a great experience to see how a Glazier handles the jobs that arise from the calls I take directly from customers. A full-circle experience! Knowing what happens at on-site glazing jobs helps me to deliver better service to my customers when they call.”

Then it was a quick farewell, with each parting way to head home. As Martin had pre-stocked his truck with glass for the next day’s appointments, he was ready to begin his day of glazing early!

The O'Brien Glass® team can make time in our day for you, too!

While no days are alike at O'Brien Glass®, our commitment to quality home and commercial glazing services and customer service excellence remains consistent.

We’re here to help you with your glazing needs and emergency glass replacement – no matter the situation or time of day. For more information about our services, call us on 1800 719 738 or send us a message to speak with one of our friendly team. You might even have Alexis answer your call too!

We have some very talented people at O'Brien® who not only do chip repairs and windscreen replacements but have also surprised us with their natural radio skills.

Well, you might have heard two new voices appear in our latest radio ads that have been running across Sydney and Melbourne recently.  Yes, joining our well-known techs, Nat and Ed, are two new real-life techs, Dorothy and Cam.

Today, we wanted to introduce them both to you and find out a bit more about their experience as our latest radio stars and Auto Technicians here at O'Brien®.

Dorothy – O'Brien® AutoGlass Rosebery, NSW

Dorothy has been with O'Brien® for 3 months now.

She previously worked as a Glazier for her family’s business back in Hungary, but since arriving in Australia 7 years ago, she has mostly worked in hospitality.

After seeing the recruitment ad featuring Nat on TV, she just knew she had to apply for a job at O'Brien®  – and she hasn’t looked back!

While her role as an Automotive Technician is a little different to what she was doing back in Hungary, she’s really enjoying what she does and still gets to work with glass but this time in vehicles.

“I’m really looking forward to getting some more experience with the glass replacement process in vehicles and learning more about camera recalibration,” Dorothy tells us. “It’s really nice to see that there are so many training courses and safety requirements in place here to help all employees feel comfortable each day.”

Cameron – O'Brien® AutoGlass Bayswater, VIC

Cameron has been an Automotive Technician at Bayswater for more than 6 years.

He loves getting out and about, working with his hands and interacting with different customers each day. He particularly enjoys installing car door glass and has become quite good at it over his time here at O'Brien®.

“It’s a pretty good gig working at O'Brien®. You get the occasional day that can be a bit challenging (like every job I guess), but overall, it’s pretty sweet, the team is great, and I really enjoy it,” says Cam.

So, what do Dorothy and Cam think about their newfound radio stardom?

“I think it’s really cool that our company uses real employees for radio ads. I always thought big companies used paid actors, but for O'Brien®, it turns out they actually rely on us to help get their messages out there,” Cam explains. “A few mates have already messaged and asked if that’s me on the radio – which is cool.”

At O'Brien®, we pride ourselves on getting our team members involved in our ad campaigns – and they love it too! Dorothy says, “I feel really respected, valued and appreciated as an O'Brien® team member.”

While they were initially a bit nervous, both Dorothy and Cam really enjoyed the whole experience.

“I was just working one day, and one of the Marketing team was visiting our branch, and after chatting for a bit, then asked if I wanted to be in a radio ad. I’d never done it before and I was very nervous, but I got a few days to prepare, and it was a great experience,” says Dorothy.

Cam adds, “I was a little nervous, but it was pretty sweet. I was given the questions and was allowed to say wanted I really wanted to say. I’d definitely put my hand up again.”

Dorothy finishes with a few parting words for our readers

“If someone is looking for a career change, I would encourage people, especially women, to get out of their comfort zone and try something new and apply for a job at O'Brien®.”

So, there you have it!

Are you keen to join the O'Brien® team?

In February this year, after almost two years of waiting, we finally saw the return of the O'Brien® Best in Australia competition – a gruelling competition to test the expertise of our O'Brien® automotive technicians and determine the best of the best.

Our technicians are tested on quality, speed, attention to detail, care, adherence to the O'Brien® way of fitting and expert use of the specialist O'Brien® tools to name a few.

Hosted remotely for the first time, six of our finest O'Brien® automotive technicians battled it out through a series of windscreen repair and replacement challenges hoping to take out the top prize. Ultimately, Phil Cole from O'Brien® AutoGlass Joondalup in WA was crowned champion. He’s now on the countdown to represent Australia in the Best of Belron 2022 competition in Barcelona, Spain, on 29-30 June.

Best of Belron brings together 29 of the best automotive technicians from across the global Belron family to compete for the title of “Best of Belron 2022”. They’ll demonstrate their skills and expertise by completing a vehicle glass repair, replacement, body glass replacement, remove/replace rear glass and recalibration (VGRRR) tasks including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) recalibration.

With the competition just around the corner, we caught up with Phil to find out how his preparation has been going, and what he’s been doing to get himself ready to take on the best technicians worldwide.

Preparing for Best of Belron 2022

Phil has been training daily to ensure his skills and expertise are in tip-top shape for the competition.

“Every job we do, we follow the Belron Way of Fitting, so I already practice every day. But as part of my training, I have been concentrating on reviewing each of the steps to ensure it is the most efficient process with the aim to reduce seconds off the task, as every second adds up at the end,” Phil told us.

The Belron Way of Fitting is a 40-step process that captures the expertise and know-how of Belron technicians around the world and represents best practices in repairing and replacing vehicle glass.

Phil has also had lots of support from the O'Brien® Technical Team, especially his local trainer, Ian Batterbee and his Trainer / Coach, Steve, who will be flying over to Spain with him.

“I’m doing much more full-on training with the Technical Team now. They watch and assess me and give me feedback. They’re picking up on those finer details that I need to work on to make sure I tick all the boxes,” Phil explained.

“I want to thank the training team for getting me this far.”

Steve added, “Phil’s training is going really well. He is an absolute superstar. Phil needs to remember so many steps, He’s in a great frame of mind.”

The O'Brien® team of Technical Trainers also support and audits the work of all technicians across the country on a regular basis, continuously providing training to achieve the highest quality standards possible and updating teams on the latest tools and technology.

How’s Phil feeling in the lead-up to the competition?

“I’m feeling confident, but not too confident,” Phil laughed. “I feel comfortable that I know what I’m doing. I know what the process is.”

With so many people watching him as part of his training, Phil says he’s starting to get used to the pressure the competition will bring. He’s now in the mindset that he needs to prove himself, and that’s precisely what he intends to do.

“I know that when I walk into the arena and see the stage, it’s all going to hit me, but until then, I feel pretty good about it.”

As for his plans, while he’s not competing, Phil says he’s looking forward to sightseeing around Barcelona and trying all the Spanish food. Still, he’ll also be looking to relax and chill out as much as he can before the competition begins.

We wish Phil all the best in Barcelona!

From all of us here at O'Brien®, we wish Phil good luck at Best of Belron 2022, and we can’t wait to see how he goes against the best technicians in the world.

Of course, we’ll keep you all updated on Phil’s progress and check back in with him after the competition to hear how it all went – and hopefully sneak a peek at the trophy!

Go Phil!

Phil practising his craft recently in Sydney, with help of the Technical Training team.

Next time you need to get your windscreen repaired or replaced, think of the team at O'Brien® AutoGlass. We’re your trained experts in all things windscreen glass – book online or call 1800 059 829.

O'Brien Glass® recently launched a radio campaign promoting our Glazing services in Adelaide, that will be shortly making its way across the airwaves in select locations across the country. The series of ads feature two of our Glazing team members, Lorraine Wilson from O'Brien Glass® Adelaide and Patrick David from O'Brien Glass® Launceston.

As part of the campaign, Lorraine and Pat talked about their expertise at O'Brien Glass® and the importance of fixing broken glass quickly to make people feel safe and secure. Here at O'Brien Glass®, we are proud to feature real members of our hardworking team in our marketing and advertising campaigns, as they are the real backbone behind what we do.

We recently sat down and spoke with our new radio stars,to get to know more about who they are, what they do and how they contribute to the O'Brien Glass® reputation for service excellence.

Introducing Lorraine Wilson

Lorraine is our O'Brien Glass® Customer Service Administrator in Greenfield Adelaide, and she has been working with us for 14 months now, having 10 years of prior career experience in the glazing industry.

She is known to be a jack of all trades and the go-to person when she’s around the office. “On a typical working day, you can find me behind the front desk talking with customers. I also take phone calls, answer any questions and process all the paperwork for orders,” Lorraine said.

She joined O'Brien Glass® through a recommendation from her friend who already works for the company. “My friend forwarded my name on to the Branch Manager. After an initial meeting and a follow-up interview, I was thrilled when they offered me the role. I love what I do!”

Although Lorraine had prior industry knowledge and experience in glazing due to her previous roles, she mentioned how things have changed so much since she worked in the industry.

“As part of my induction with O'Brien Glass®, there was a thorough training program to get me up to speed with the many codes and regulations around glass, as well as the full product range on offer. It’s exciting to learn about new glass products, films, pet doors and more. I’ve been with the group for over a year and I’m still learning every day.” Lorraine said. “I love being part of O'Brien Glass®. The team is down to earth, supportive and all work together to get the best result for our customers. “

According to Lorraine, she’s always enjoyed customer service roles and doesn’t mind being the centre of attention, which made her perfect to be one of the voices behind our radio ad. “Being featured as the voice artist for the O'Brien Glass® radio ad was such an incredible experience. My friends and family – even one of our cleaners here in the office approached me and said that they’ve heard me on the radio!”

While the radio ad recording was a new experience for Lorraine, this was not her first time in media! She was featured on the famous TV show Wheel of Fortune when she was 28 years old

When not working, she spends her time learning the guitar, visiting her new 7-month-old grandson and is a classic car enthusiast together with her fiancé.

Let’s meet Patrick David

Also known as ‘Pat’ to friends, family and colleagues, Patrick has been with O'BrienGlass® Launceston for over 30 years!

Pat, together with his Glazing team, services almost half of Tasmania, which makes him one of the most well-travelled and respected members at O'Brien Glass®. “Being with the company for more than three decades now, I’ve met so many people, all with their unique circumstances and needs. This is the most challenging yet fun part of my job. However, I can safely say I’ve always gone above and beyond to provide them with outstanding service.”

Although Pat has been with us for over 30 years, he’s still learning new things every single day. “Everyone in our team has something to contribute and what I love the most about having this job at O'Brien Glass® is the chance to visit many different places in Tasmania which I consider the most beautiful state in Australia.”

“Being a part of the O'Brien Glass® radio ad as a voice artist was an enjoyable experience but was very different to my normal day of glazing!”

When not working, Pat is a car enthusiast, just like Lorraine. He is particularly proud of owning three BMWs as part of his collection, including a motorbike. He also enjoys recreational activities like hiking and spending time with his three children.

Listen out for Lorraine & Pat – on your local radio

Lorraine and Pat did such a great job across the airwaves in Adelaide, that they’ll soon be sharing the story of the local O'Brien Glass® teams in Newcastle and Perth as well.

Ed Finlay has just completed his apprenticeship and is now a fully qualified auto technician servicing Wollongong and surrounding areas. This means he is qualified to repair or replace damaged vehicle glass from small windscreen chips to big cracks or other broken glass.

Proving what a quick learner he is, just this month he had a crash course in show biz and is the new face in the latest O'Brien® TV ad about windscreen cracks and our Cal-Tech® ADAS Recalibration service.

Ed decided to put himself out of his comfort zone and volunteer to be part of the ads when the marketing team put a call out looking for technicians to be part of the campaign.

“I decided I would send a quick audition video to the marketing team as a bit of a laugh. I wasn’t expecting to hear back but clearly, my hidden talent shone through.”

Ed who describes himself as quite reserved said the experience in front of the camera was a change from his day to day job as a technician. He expressed that he was certainly out of his comfort zone being in front of the camera but that was also the major reason he decided to go for it.

Ed enjoyed his day on set and was incredibly humbled by the experience commenting that he hadn’t given professional actors enough credit in the past as it was a long and tough day.

The marketing team was happy with his genuine, laid back professionalism. “We love casting real technicians in our advertising,” said Vivian Oppl, group marketing head, O'Brien®. “They lend a certain credibility, authenticity and professionalism to what we are trying to convey to our customers about the friendly and expert service they can expect when they bring their car to O'Brien®.”

The new O'Brien® ad is all about educating car owners that when a windscreen cracks in a vehicle that has ADAS technology, like auto-braking and lane detection, they will need to have their front-facing camera recalibrated as well. The O'Brien® Cal-Tech service is state of the art and is performed just after the windscreen replacement so customers can drive away with confidence knowing they can still trust those safety features.

While Ed enjoyed his time on set, he was equally happy to go back to his day job.

“The thing I love most about working for O'Brien® is the independence that being a mobile technician brings and knowing that I’m providing a unique essential service. I enjoy meeting lots of different and interesting characters and seeing their happy expression after a successful windscreen replacement or repair.”

Outside of TV shoots and work, you’ll find Ed enjoying the outdoors.

“When I’m not at work I’m usually on the south coast bushwalking, swimming and eating good pub food, working out or tinkering with my cars.”

If you have a windscreen that needs repairing or replacing, make sure you’re in touch with O'Brien® and it may be Ed (or any one of our famous auto technicians) that responds to the call.

It has been over a week since the end of the Spirit of Belron challenge for 2021 and now that the muscles are recovering, we are celebrating the huge achievements of all who took part.

In Australia, 431 people took part in the challenge and contributed a whopping 10,468km to the total 167,090km travelled globally. That equates to more than 4 times circumnavigating the globe.

In addition to the physical part of the challenge, the business aims to raise money for our global charity partner Afrika Tikkun, a leading non-profit company in the fields of education, skills development and socio-economic upliftment in South Africa.

This year we successfully raised over 2.3M Euros for Afrika Tikkun with O'Brien Australia proudly contributing $90,000 to the effort!

In Australia, our outstanding participants were George Psarras, branch manager at the Traralgon branch who rode over 460kms and Emma Webb-Wagg who works in our Wagga Wagga branch who travelled 370km.

George, who is based in regional Victoria said being in lockdown and not being able to go anywhere gave him some extra time throughout the day to get on the exercise bike.

He would do 30-45 minute stints at a time and coordinate it with binging his favourite show on Netflix or watching AFL, NRL or Premier Football.

“Initially I said I would do 5km a day. But when time goes that quick you don’t realise you have done 50km just watching TV.”

Although George admits it’s taken him a week to recover, he said the challenge has got him in the zone.

“I’m not as fit as I should be and my wife has been exercising a lot recently, so I do need to step up and lose some kilos.”

George’s competitive spirit is what got him across the line as Australian who travelled the greatest distance.

“When it comes to sport things I can be really competitive. If there is a challenge there I will try and better that.”

Emma, who was in the same team as George, was the second-highest individual clocking 370km, also on an exercise bike.

This was her first time taking part and she said her motivation was to raise money for a worthy cause as well as get out of the house and get active after a long period of lockdown

She also credits her team for the added motivation to smash her targets.

“I would like to give a massive shout out to the Auto Champs Team – George Psarras, Phil Cole, Fawad Saleem, Anthony Lindsay and the ring leader Marcus Wood.

Their enthusiasm, dedication and encouragement was amazing and having such a supportive team was a huge boost for the motivation. If it wasn’t for the teamwork and 11 pm messages in the group chat, I wouldn’t have pushed myself as much. My success is theirs as well – ONE TEAM ONE DREAM.”

Great effort all!

Matthew Singles is a mobile vehicle glass technician servicing the Wollongong region and says the best part about his job is being on the road all day.

“I love being out and about and meeting people and helping them with what they need. I could never work in an office.”

Matthew has worked for O'Brien® for over 10 years in three different stints. This last time he has been back with the company for just under three years and says it’s the comradery of his team that he enjoys.

“Our manager is very experienced and has worked as a fitter so knows what it’s like. The guys at the branch are all mates and we get along really well. We have a few trainees who we all guide and help out as well.”

Matthew lives in Menai in the Sutherland region of Sydney.

“It’s a great slice of Sydney. It’s not as busy as some other parts of the city and it’s quite easy to get around.”

Outside of work, you’ll find Matthew picnicking with the family on the bank of the Woronora River or on one of the beaches in Wollongong. A certain restaurant in the area is a favourite for sentimental reasons.

“My wife and I love going to Rocksalt for dinner as it’s where we got married.”

If you require vehicle glass repair or replacement in Wollongong, make sure to call the experts at O'Brien® on 1800 059 829 or book online –  it might just be Matthew who comes to do the job!

Maurice Pride is a self-confessed car tragic which is why his job as a senior technician operating out of the O'Brien® AutoGlass Launceston branch in Tasmania suits him perfectly.

“I’m around cars all day and I couldn’t be happier,” said Maurice.

Maurice, who was born and bred in Tasmania, has worked for O'Brien® for 13 years. His role is to repair or replace the windscreens of cars in and around the Launceston area.

“I can travel up to 200km each day and I meet a lot of different people from different walks of life. Just the other day an elderly lady told me her life story while I was fixing her car. I’ve been doing this job for so long that I have customers recognise me at BBQs.”

Maurice likes providing excellent customer service and says he doesn’t have favourite jobs to do; rather he enjoys doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done. Although, he does mention working on the Targa Tasmania race vehicles as a career highlight.

“Targa Tasmania is an annual car race for boys with toys. A whole lot of vehicles take part in different races all across the state for a whole week. It’s not uncommon to see Ferraris and Lamborghinis kitted out as race cars and ridden around the track.”

A love for cars runs in Maurice’s family and he has restored his grandfather’s 1970 HG Holden Kingswood and his dad’s 1976 Datsun 1500cc Ute.

Maurice lives in Georgetown which is 50km north of Launceston and outside of work you’ll find him fishing or cruising around in his 1976 Datsun.

“Tasmania is a great place to drive around. The scenery is amazing. There is nothing quite like seeing Cradle Mountain coated in snow.”

O'Brien technicians are experts in chip repair and windscreen replacement, so if you need your windscreen repaired, and Maurice is not around to help you can rest assured that you’re in good hands with any of our experts. Just call 1800 059 829 or book online.
